Britons were called in early during the tendering phase for this project. The illustrative design proposed a new concrete arch bridge, comprising of in situ and precast reinforced concrete arches and deck beams supporting reinforced concrete ladder deck; dependent upon design some post-tensioning was expected. This posed significant buildability issues which required extensive temporary works. Britons were tasked with constructing the same structure, off site, entirely out of steel. Working closely with the clients designer and calling upon Britons vast wealth of knowledge in complex plate fabrication, the bridge you see here was successfully developed and built. The installation methodology employed 2 no 500 tonne cranes working simultaneously to land the pinned arches at their meeting point in the centre of the river.
